Paving will begin Thursday 10/9, weather permitting, and will most likely continue through the end of next week. The forecast shows high probability of weather related delays in the next 5 days. Weather delays could push paving into the following week. Expect slower speeds during day time hours.

Traffic is detoured at Swan Creek through Spring, 2009 with 35 mile-per-hour speed limits strictly enforced due to reduced visibility. detour map

Truck traffic in Gallatin Canyon is limited to local deliveries only. Through loads must use Hwy 287.

Local delivery loads over 10.5 ft wide require permits and flaggers at the West Fork Bridge

Wide loads, permitted to make local deliveries, should be moved through the construction area between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Gallatin River - Gallatin Canyon
Highway - 191 Gallatin Canyon Safety Improvements

Montana Department of Transportation is making improvements to Highway 191 through Gallatin Canyon in order to enhance public safety. The projects include adding turn lanes for Highway 64 going to Big Sky, slope flattening, widening of shoulders, improving clear zones, improving site distance, installing new and upgraded guardrails, and replacing two bridges. Construction will continue into 2009.

Project Cost

$12 million with funding support by the Federal Highway Administration
