Public meetings are a vital part of the project development process at MDT. Most projects consist of one informational meeting to inform the public what is going on, to get their input, and to answer questions.
An informational public meeting for this project was held on May 15, 2007 at the Highland Elementary School in Billings. At this meeting, the project team presented a preliminary plan for improvements at the intersection of Parkhill and 13th. Although the information presented was preliminary, it presents a good idea of what MDT plans on doing to make the intersection safer and more "user friendly". Meeting attendees were asked to comment on the project - let the design team know what they thought of the project and what their concerns are. The design team also answered questions concerning project specifics.
Some of the topics discussed were:
- Impacts the project may have on the surrounding neighborhood.
- Pedestrians, especially school children, crossing at the intersection.
- Parking in the vicinity of the intersection.
- Reasons for not installing a traffic signal at the intersection.
- Reasons for not making the intersection a four-way stop.
- High travel speed of traffic along 13th Street.
